How To Use

Directions

Adults and children 2 months old and older

Inspect

  • Check each household member with a magnifying glass in bright light for lice/nits (eggs)
  • Look for tiny nits near scalp, beginning at back of neck and behind ears
  • Examine small sections of hair at a time
  • Unlike dandruff which moves when touched, nits stick to the hair
  • If either lice or nits are found, treat with Nix® Crème Rinse

Treat

  • Wash hair with a shampoo without conditioner. Do not use a shampoo that contains a conditioner or a conditioner alone since this may decrease the activity of Nix®. Rinse with water.
  • Towel dry hair so it is damp but not wet
  • Shake the bottle of Nix® well
  • Completely saturate the hair and scalp with Nix®. Begin to apply Nix® behind the ears and at the back of the neck.
  • Keep Nix® out of the eyes. Protect the eyes with a washcloth or towel.
  • Leave Nix® on the hair for 10 minutes, but no longer
  • Rinse with warm water
  • Towel dry hair and comb out tangles
  • If live lice are seen seven days or more after the first treatment, a second treatment should be given

Remove Lice/Nits

  • Remove nits by combing the hair with the special small tooth comb provided. Remaining nits may be removed by hand (using a throw-away glove), or cutting the nits out.
  • Use the nit comb provided and make sure the hair remains slightly damp while removing nits
  • If the hair dries during combing, dampen it slightly with water
  • Part the hair into 4 sections. Work on one section at a time. Longer hair may take more time (1-2 hours).
  • Start at the top of the head on the section you have picked
  • With one hand, lift a 1-2 inch wide strand of hair. Get the teeth of the comb as close to the scalp as possible and comb with a firm, even motion away from the scalp to the end of the hair.
  • Use clips to pin back each strand of hair after you have combed out the nits
  • Clean the comb completely as you go. Wipe the nits from the comb with a tissue and throw away the tissue in a sealed plastic bag to prevent the lice from coming back.
  • After combing, recheck the entire head for nits and repeat combing if necessary
  • Check the affected head daily to remove any nits that you might have missed

Directions for Combing Gel

  • Use after shampooing with lice killing Nix® Crème Rinse to promote easy combing and help detangle hair. When you finish combing, rinse hair thoroughly with warm water. Nix® Combing Gel does not kill lice and nits. Read all the directions in the Consumer Information Insert before use.

Electronic Lice Comb

Nix® Electronic Lice Comb

The Nix Electronic Lice Comb is intended to remove and/or kill lice and nits from head (scalp) hair. The Nix Electronic Lice Comb emits a small electrical charge that isn’t sensed by humans, but is lethal to the lice. Lice are destroyed as soon as they come into contact with the comb teeth!

How To Use

Directions for Use

For best performance and optimal efficiency of this device, please read and conform strictly to the following instructions:

Before Use:

  1. Hair must be dry before using this electronic device. This device should not be used simultaneously with any shampoos or other treatments.
  2. For best results, hair should be free of styling product, i.e. gels or mousses.
  3. Before treatment, comb the hair thoroughly with a regular comb to free all knots. The tines of the lice comb are purposefully very close and may have difficulty combing the hair if the hair has not been properly combed.

As with most common lice treatment methods, it is recommended that the treatment be repeated over the course of the egg nit hatching (10 days) to ensure the infestation is fully eradicated. For maximum effectiveness, repeat the treatment every 2-3 days for 10 total days.

Operating the Lice Comb:

  1. This device has a 3-position power switch:
OFF – slide all the way back, away from the comb teeth
ON – slide one click forward; green LED power light illuminates
ON with SPOTLIGHT – slide forward towards the comb teeth; green power light illuminated and bright LED spotlight illuminates
  2. Hold the NIX comb at a 45-degree angle (the ON button is facing up towards the user) and start combing with the comb teeth near the hair roots.
The SPOTLIGHT can help see the lice in low light setting or on those persons with dark hair.
  3. When the comb has trapped and killed a louse, the red Louse Detection Alert light will illuminate.
  4. Stop combing the hair, and remove the louse from the comb teeth. The brush located on the underside of the device can help clean the teeth.
  5. After the louse is clear, the light will turn off and the comb is ready for use again.

Limitation: will not operate on wet or excessively oily hair.

Nix® Premium Metal Two-Sided Comb

Nix® Premium Metal Two-Sided Comb

Use the Nix® Premium Metal Two-Sided Comb to comb out lice and their eggs (nits). The wide-toothed side of the comb removes snarles and tangles while the smaller tooth side removes lice and their eggs. The handle is designed to keep fingers away from lice.

How To Use

Directions

  • After shampooing and treating with Nix® Crème Rinse remove tangles from damp hair with wide-‐ tooth side of comb. Apply Nix® Gel to facilitate comb out and keep hair damp.

  • Making sure hair is still damp, part the hair into four sections. Work on one section at a time. If hair begins to dry out while working on it, dampen again.

  • Take one section, hold out and get teeth of the smaller-tooth side of the comb as close as possible to the scalp. Comb with a firm, even motion away from the scalp to the end of the hair.

  • Clean the comb frequently as you work on the hair. Wipe the dead lice and nits from the comb with a tissue and discard in a plastic bag to prevent the lice from recurring.

  • Pin finished sections back to avoid recontamination from remaining nits.
